St. Mark’s Staff
Pastor Joe McGarry
(Blog, Twitter, Facebook) grew up in the Lutheran church. As a teenager he joined the staff at Camp Calumet in Freedom, New Hampshire; where he was on the summer staff for ten summers. In 1999 he joined the year round staff at Camp Calumet and was with them for three years. It was at Calumet that he felt his strongest call to ministry.
After leaving Calumet he joined the staff at Hope Lutheran Church in Reading, Pennsylvania as a Youth Director, After School Director, and Assistant Music Minister. In 2003 he finished his B.A. from Concordia University in St. Paul, Minnesota in Youth Development. In 2004 he entered the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. While in seminary he worked as a Youth Director for Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Southampton, PA and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Telford, PA and as an intern at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Red Hill, PA , he had an experience as a trauma bay chaplain at Cooper Hospital in Camden, New Jersey. He graduated from LTSP with a Master’s of Divinity in 2008.
Pastor Joe McGarry lives in Baldwinsville, NY with his wife Katie and their two children Logan and Addyson. He is currently Vice President of the board member for Vanderkamp Center a Lutheran/Presbyterian camp in Cleveland, NY. He is also a member of the Baldwinsville Chamber of Commerce.

Julie Grindle, B.M., M.M., is a lifelong church musician, working as an organist, choir director, and music clinician. She studied organ and church music at both Valparaiso University (Bachelor of Music with Martin Jean) and Indiana University (Master of Music with Marilyn Keiser.) She has served parishes in Virginia Beach, VA, Atlanta, GA and Bloomington, IN, as well as being the Chapel organist and Instructor at Valparaiso University (1997-98) before coming to Baldwinsville in 2010. For the past 15 months she has served First Presbyterian in Baldwinsville, as organist. She regularly works for the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, currently serving as the Conference Chair for the 2013 ALCM Biennial National Conference, “God is Here: Worship in a Wireless World.” She has also presented at ALCM conferences, and was the Assistant Conductor of the Bloomington Chamber Singers from 2004-2010. She is an active vocalist in the Syracuse Vocal Ensemble, and lives in Baldwinsville with her husband, David, and children Will and Tom.
St. Mark’s Deacons
Sue Sterner
Sue and her family have been members of St. Mark’s since 1988. She is retired from the Baldwinsville school district, having worked as a 1:1 teaching assistant with special needs children. A licensed RN, Sue has worked as a camp nurse at our church camps.
Commissioned as a congregation deacon in 2006, with an emphasis on new members, Sue also co-chairs our Outreach committee, and sits on the Worship & Music committee, Church Council, and church choir.
Currently, she is a member of the Synod Council and Synod Council Executive Committee of the Upstate NY Synod of the ELCA. In addition, Sue sits on the Central Crossroads Conference Cabinet and the Learning at the Crossroads committee.
